Onward NRV’s Spring Investor Reception Highlights Radford University’s Economic Impact

Onward NRV hosted investors at the Selu Conservancy at Radford University on Thursday, March 14th for the organization’s Spring Investor Reception. The focus of the event was the recent economic impact study conducted by Radford University. Nearly 50 investors and community leaders attended the event.

Executive Director Katie Boswell began by greeting and thanking elected officials, board members, and investors. She then turned the microphone over to Angela Stanfill of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, the event’s sponsor. Stanfill spoke about the services that Goodwill Industries of the Valleys can provide to their clients through Goodwill’s outsourcing options for manufacturing and industrial businesses. After showcasing examples of Goodwill’s products, she introduced Radford University’s Vice President for Economic Development and Corporate Education, Dr. Angela Joyner. Joyner spoke briefly about Radford University’s economic goals and the benefits of the Selu Conservancy before introducing the university’s Director of Economic Development, Charlie Jewell.

Jewell then presented the findings of Radford University’s 2022 Economic Impact Study. Jewell highlighted the impact that visitors and students at the university make on the New River Valley. He also spoke about how employees and alumni influence the state of the Commonwealth. Jewell made the study available through a QR code and brochures during the event.

After Jewell’s presentation on the impact that Radford University has on the region, Katie Boswell then promoted the 2024 cohort of the NRV Experience internship program and encouraged investors to enroll in the Elevate NRV talent retention summit.
