“We are grateful to have received this level of support from the Virginia’s New River Valley business community,” said Onward NRV Board Chair Ed Lawhorn. “This is a region that works together, and that was shown through the entire fundraising process.”

The Onward 2023 plan is a modern, holistic approach to economic development that focuses on four main points: Industry, Talent, Placemaking, and Regionalism.

“The Onward 2023 plan resonated with the business community, which allowed us to exceed expectations,” said Onward NRV Campaign Co-Chair John Dooley. “Thank you to the leaders that decided to invest in the mission and ensure this bold vision for our region comes to fruition.”

The strategy is estimated to lead to the creation of 3,488 direct and indirect jobs, stimulating $84 million in consumer expenditures over five years.

“The success of the campaign is very humbling, especially to have so many businesses and organizations investing in the future of Virginia’s New River Valley” said Onward NRV Executive Director Charlie Jewell. “We will transition this momentum and use it to continue executing the five-year plan so that we can harness the full potential of the region.”
